AIDS Prevention Initiative in Nigeria (APIN) is a non-governmental donor-funded organization dedicated to the prevention, treatment, care and support of diseases of public health importance in Nigeria, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, among others. Since 2001, we have worked closely with key stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, university teaching hospitals and other non-governmental organizations to deliver qualitative interventions.

APIN's goal is to reduce the burden and mitigate the impact of those diseases through cutting edge, innovative & sustainable approaches. Our intervention activities span forty-two sites in ten states of the Federation and are coordinated from our offices in Abuja, Lagos and Ibadan.

The relocation and expansion of our Lagos Office have brought about the need for a Front Desk Officer. We are therefore inviting applications from qualified candidates to fill the position.
Job Title: Front Desk Officer
Location: Abuja

Job Functions

Reporting to the Office Administrator, the Front Desk Officer will receive and attend to visitors and enquiries as well as manage all official telephone calls, mails, fax and other correspondences. S/he will also have responsibility for providing back-office secretarial support on routine basis and during training programmes.

The key tasks of the job holder shall include the following:

    Receive and attend to visitors and guests as well as manage enquiries by providing responses or routing them to relevant staff members
    Manage official incoming and outgoing telephone calls, make calls for and route incoming calls to, relevant staff members
    Dispatch and receive mails through courier companies, keep record of outgoing and incoming mails, ensure their timely delivery and conduct preliminary review of bills submitted for courier services rendered
    Disseminate official news/information to junior staff members without/unable to access their mail accounts
    Maintain an effective and efficient filing system for program and administrative documents
    Maintain contact details (telephone numbers and e-mail addresses) of staff members and site officials
    Produce electronic copies of documents by scanning, as requested by staff members
    Assist in the preparation for, and reporting on, training programmes, especially in the design and printing of certificates and tags for training participants

Qualifications and Experience

    A first degree in the Social Sciences or the Humanities and a minimum of two years cognate experience, preferably in a non-governmental organization or development agency.

Technical and Behavioural Competencies
The ideal job holder would:
    possess good oral and written communication skills
    possess good interpersonal skill
    be proficient in the use of computer, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet browsing and emailing
    be able to use own initiative
    possess customer service experience
    be courteous and politeness
    be confident

Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (Operator of the NNPC/SHELL /TEPN/AGIP Joint Venture) Scholarship Scheme offers students in all Nigerian universities the opportunity to study with an annual grant from the SPDC Joint Venture for the full duration of their course. The programme aims to promote academic excellence and improve skills among young Nigerians.

WHO CAN APPLY?There are two categories within the scholarship - the National Merit Award (NM) and the Areas of Operation Merit Award, East or West (OE or OW).
1.) National Merit Award (NM)  The National Merit Award (NM) University Scholarship is open to all Nigerian first year degree students in Nigerian universities who are NOT indigenes of SPDC's operational areas (in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Imo, and Rivers States). Applications must be sent in writing using the application format below only and sent in an envelope clearly marked 2010/2011 NM Award.
