Africare Job Recruitment : State Project Officers








Africare is a US-based NGO established in 1970, with projects in Nigeria since 1978. Africare currently has programs in 19 African countries, focusing on design and delivery of technical, training, service delivery and systems strengthening in the areas of health and HIV / AIDS, food security, natural resource management, water resource development, microenterprise development, civil society strengthening and good governance.

The Promoting Initiative for Malaria Eradication (PRIME) project in Nigeria is a multi-year project in six states in the Niger Delta region. PRIME contributes to rapid and sustained scale-up of malaria control interventions for high impact. Project activities focus on increasing prompt and effective treatment of malaria using ACTs, scale-up of parasitological diagnosis of malaria; health systems strengthening for malaria prevention; treatment and control. The project works with private sector health services providers to ensure proper management and utilization of malaria drugs, test kits, and other commodities.

1.) State Project Officer (Rivers, Cross Rivers and Delta State)


Position Description:
  • Provides program, administrative and logistical oversight of the project in the focus state under the supervision of the Project Director:
  • Oversees collation/analysis of date, and provides timely reporting on project activities.
  • Ensures data tools and MIS systems in place in all project sites and that all reports accurate and submitted on time.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Medical Sciences, Social Sciences, Arts, Management, Humanities or equivalent with relevant experience.
  • Strong skills in data management and analysis including experience with collection of primary data.
  • At least 2-4 years experience in developing, implementing and reporting for community health programs, preferably with an international organization, local organizations or health facility.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with the private sector, small business owners, community groups, government agencies, civil society groups, health institutions and trade unions.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills with proficiency (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension) in English.
  • Proficiency in computer application (word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation packages and internet applications) highly desirable.
  • Must be available to travel often and carry out any other duties required to meet project targets.

2.)  Driver (Rivers, Cross River, and Delta State)
 
Position Description:
  • Drive project vehicle in a professional manner ensuring safety of staff.
  • Inspect vehicles daily to ensure they are safe to drive and make recommendations for needed repairs.
  • Monitor the servicing of the vehicle and report all repair needs.
  • Clean the vehicle; check oil, water and carryout other minor maintenance on a daily basis.
  • Keep record of the vehicle movement and mileage readings.
  • Assist in courier and other errands.
  • Make pick-ups and deliveries as needed and attend to other project related requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of Secondary School Certificate.
  • At least 3 years driving experience with a company, government agency, or organization.
  • Possession of current Nigeria Driver's license.
  • Excellent day and night vision.
  • Knowledge of Nigeria/ Niger Delta road network.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Nigeria safe driving rules, signs and regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills on safe driving techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to read and write simple English

NYSC Call-Up Collection Procedure for Foreign Trained Nigerian Graduates

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Headquarters Abuja has released a new procedure and requirements for collection of Call-Up Letters for Foreign Trained Nigerian Graduates.
Nigerians who studied outside Nigeria are now expected to collect their Call-up letters at the NYSC Secretariat in the State of their domicile. The registration is never done by proxy. Therefore foreign trained graduates are expected to be physically present and are to present the originals of the following documents:

i.  West African School Certificate (WASC) or GCE O level, GCSE, IGCSE, SSCE,NECO, Higher School Diploma etc.(must have 5 credit in at least 2 sittings)
ii. Degree/ HND Certificate
iii. Complete Transcript of Degree/HND or Marks-sheet for Indian Schools.
iv. International Nigerian Passport, (if you have a dual citizenship,bring both Nigerian and other passports) showing:
a) First Departure date
b) Student Visa
c) Last arrival date
v) Doctors and Pharmacists must bring their certificates of registration with either the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council or Pharmacists Council of Nigeria or receipt showing full registration with either of the above mentioned professional bodies.
vi) 3 passport photographs.
All foreign trained prospective Corps Members who intend to participate in the 2011 Batch B Orientation course must complete registration on or before 14th June 2011.
No Registration shall take place after 14th June, 2011.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities for this position include:
    Assist in project planning and review.
    Selection of engineering techniques to solve problems and making sound design recommendations.
    Ensure all required QHSE training and certification is current.
    Co-operate with, participate in and strive to improve the Company's HSE Management System.
    Assesses results for applicability, validity and conformance to specifications.
    The candidate will at intervals be assigned to a significant portion of a larger project.
    The candidate will be a lead engineer on smaller project with some functional supervision.
    Be responsible for special projects as assigned.
    Will be responsible for managing junior level personnel on projects
    Responsible for reviewing overall soundness and adherence of assignments to stated objectives
    Provide reports on project activities and accidents and incidents immediately for action

Qualifications et experience
    Must have a BSc. or HND in Mechanical, Petroleum, Electrical, Civil or related engineering discipline
    Have sound working knowledge of principles, concepts, theories, and/or practices of applicable discipline.
    Masters degree in Engineering will be an added advantage
    Should possess a minimum of 3 years relevant experience in similar environment.
    Experience in basic project management skills
    Intermediate analytical skills
    Good verbal and written communication skills
    Good problem solving skills
    Should be able to work with minimum supervision, requiring originality and ingenuity.
    Possess a duty of care ensuring personal safety and that of other employees

Experience within a recognized international company will be a plus
