The Women's Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1994 to promote the health and social well-being of women through action-research, evidence-based advocacy, training and service delivery on reproductive health with special emphasis on girls and women. WHARC works in 18 Nigerian states, with headquarters located in Benin City, Edo state. The Benin office now wishes to recruit self-motivated, innovative and proactive individuals to fill the under-listed posts:

1.)  Accountant

The Role
The position holder will lead the financial management office of the Centre. She/he will be responsible for the maintenance of financial policies and procedures in the centre, under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer. S/he will supervise staff in the Accounts Department and ensure compliance with budgetary provisions. S/he will also ensure accurate computation of budgets in submitted proposals and the early submission of all financial reports on completed projects.

Person Specifications

    Possession of a B Sc. degree or Higher National Diploma in Accountancy
    Possession of ICAN or ACCA certificate will be an added advantage
    Deep knowledge and experience in use of accountancy computer software, e.g. Excel or Peachtree 
    At least two years experience in managing project funds will be needed.


2.)  Financial Assistant

The Role
The position holder shall be responsible to the Accountant and will ensure that all accounting records are maintained in line with the financial policies and procedures manual of the centre. In addition to other responsibilities, s/he will be responsible for preparing periodic financial reports as well as the monthly salary payroll in the centre.

3.) Internal Auditor

The Role
The position holder will be responsible to the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees, and will ensure adequate internal financial control system in the centre. S/he will ensure compliance with the internal control system of the centre, and ensure that financial reports are accurate by carrying out substantive tests on them from time to time. S/he will also contribute to the preparation of the annual audit work plans and ensure that expenditure is in line with the approved budget.

4.) Business Manager

The Role
The position holder will be responsible for managing all the revenue-generating outlets of the centre. These include the Business Centre, rentals and sale of publications in the centre. S/he will be responsible for promoting and advertising the centre’s products and keep accurate records of volume of sales and revenue obtained in collaboration with the Accounts Department.

Person Specifications

    Possession of a B Sc. Degree or Higher National Diploma in Business Administration or marketing
    Knowledge in use of ICT and the new media 
    Experience working in a similar position will be an advantage


5) Drivers

The Role
Drivers with relevant driving certificates and at least 5 years’ driving experience are need. They would be required to act with integrity and to also assist as support staff in the centre.

BACKGROUND
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Service Centre Manager, the Intern will support the implementation of the UNDP Country Office’s sourcing strategy to promote easy access to vendor information.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
OBJECTIVE:

The Intern is expected to support the work of the Service Centre in the overall effort to enhance procurement in support to UNDP’s programme delivery in Nigeria.
SPECIFIC TASKS:
The Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Service Centre Manager for a period of 3 months and will carry out the following tasks:
Assist in the regular updating of the vendor information in UNDP approved sites.
Assist in the inputting selected vendor’s information and other data in the VDMS.
In coordination with the Service Centre Manager compile the list of selected vendors from the EOI for Contract Committees consideration.
Assist in the organization of existing files for easy access to information. Provision of the logistics support to the events.
Assist in establishing an electronic library in the Service Centre’s share point.
Other relevant tasks as may be assigned by the Service Centre Manager and other appropriate senior management staff of the Country Office.
DELIVERABLE AND TIMELINES
UNDP Country Office VPMS updated with approved vendor data in different area of procurement; (Aug 2012).
Service Centre vendor contact list updated (Sept. 2012).
Electronic library share point established (Sept. 2012).
COMPETENCIES
Excellent organizing and analysis of information skills;
Good in the use office machines and equipment;
Ability to work in a competitive environment and with diverse cultures and with minimum supervision.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Interns are selected on a competitive basis. The following minimum qualifications are required:
EDUCATION:
Enrolment in a relevant graduate-level degree programme such as business administration, economics or social sciences. Only those students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
Fluency in English. Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
CONDITIONS OF INTERNSHIP:
Interns are considered gratis personnel. They are not staff members.
Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. The costs associated must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may  provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, visa etc.
